Aug 09, 2024

Washington [US], August 9: "ABC News will host the presidential debate on September 10. Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have both confirmed their participation in the debate," according to a statement from ABC News on August 8.
Speaking at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on August 8, Mr. Trump said he was "looking forward" to the presidential debate with Ms. Harris. In addition to the scheduled confrontation on ABC News, Mr. Trump also proposed debates on Fox News on September 4 and NBC News on September 25.
Previously, Mr. Trump agreed to a debate schedule on ABC News with US President Joe Biden , but after Mr. Biden withdrew from the election, the Republican presidential candidate said he would not agree to debate Ms. Harris if she refused the plan to "fight" on Fox News.
On the same day, August 8, Ms. Harris confirmed that she would participate in the confrontation with Mr. Trump on September 10. When asked if she would participate in other debate schedules that Mr. Trump proposed, the US vice president said: "I would be happy to have an additional debate after September 10."
An ABC News source previously said the network was likely to host the first Harris-Trump presidential debate, after Harris's campaign said it would not take on Trump on Fox News. Meanwhile, a source familiar with the NBC News negotiations said the September 25 debate was one of the options being sent to the campaigns. Harris's campaign has not yet formally accepted the schedule.
Details on location, rules and moderator will be determined closer to the debate date.
Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz are scheduled to campaign in battleground states this week. Meanwhile, at a press conference on August 8, Mr. Trump affirmed that he would not change his approach to the race for the White House, arguing that Ms. Harris was also responsible for the policies under the Biden administration.
