Ms. Harris gives CBS interview, Mr. Trump refuses

Oct 09, 2024

Washington [US], October 9: Yesterday (Vietnam time), ahead of the US presidential election, CBS News broadcast the program "60 Minutes" interviewing US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, on hot issues including the Middle East, Ukraine, gun ownership and immigration.
Responding just before the US presidential election, Ms. Harris disagreed with the question of whether the Israeli Prime Minister is a "great ally" of the US, but said that the correct question should be "whether the American people and the Israeli people have an important alliance." If it is the latter, Ms. Harris confirmed that it is correct. The Democratic candidate also did not think that the immigration policy of the Joe Biden administration was wrong, even though Washington was forced to reinstate border controls after 3 years of lifting them.
Regarding the possibility of peace talks in Ukraine, Ms. Harris affirmed that she would not participate in a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin unless Ukraine was involved. According to her, if Republican candidate Donald Trump was still the US president when Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, "Mr. Putin would have set foot in Kyiv by now." Regarding the economic agenda, she continued to affirm that her plan would make the US economy stronger, while Mr. Trump would only weaken the economy. Ms. Harris announced that she would tax the richest Americans to pay for the above plan. During the interview, the vice president also revealed that he has long owned a Glock gun and has fired it at a shooting range.
CBS News said it had invited Mr. Trump to appear on "60 Minutes," a bipartisan interview program that traditionally takes place before a presidential election. The Republican candidate initially agreed, but later declined. Mr. Trump's campaign said he did not accept, accusing CBS News of spreading "fake news."
Also yesterday, billionaire Elon Musk announced that he was betting on Mr. Trump winning the upcoming election. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that Mr. Musk would campaign for Mr. Trump in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. Mr. Trump's campaign did not comment on this information. Mr. Trump is scheduled to hold rallies in this battleground state on October 9, specifically in Scranton and Reading.
