Switzerland takes over UNSC chair amid criticism

Geneva [Switzerland], May 2: Switzerland took over the chairmanship of the United Nations Security Council for the first time on Monday.
In this role, the country wants to live up to its reputation as a mediator and bridge-builder, UN Ambassador Pascale Baeriswyl told media. However, the reputation of traditionally neutral Switzerland has suffered since the Russian war on Ukraine began.
Political scientist Christoph Frei from the Swiss University of St. Gallen told DPA: "In political-diplomatic circles, the Swiss foreign policy of the past 18 months gives cause to shake one's head."
